COLONIA, N.J. (Apr. 14, 2025) – Mercy University baseball senior Gabe Sanders (Dunedin, Fla./Central Alabama CC) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Player of the Week for Week Eight and junior Kolongi Goins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./FDR) and freshmen Ryan DiNapoli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and Gordon Votruba (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll.
Sanders hit a team-high .529 (9-for-17) with four RBI, two doubles, and one run as Mercy went 3-2 on the week. The senior opened the week going 1-for-1 in the win at Georgian Court on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Mercy's win over D'Youville on Friday. Sanders went 3-for-6 with an RBI in the doubleheader at D'Youville on Saturday. The senior ended the week going 2-for-5 with an RBI in the win at D'Youville on Sunday.
Goins hit .444 (8-for-18) with a team-high five RBI to go with four runs, three doubles and two stolen bases as Mercy went 3-2 on the week. The junior opened the week going 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs in the win at Georgian Court on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 1-for-4 with an RBI, driving in the winning run in the 11th inning, in Mercy's win at D'Youville on Friday. Goins then went 1-for-3 in game one at D'Youville on Saturday before ending the week going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the win at D'Youville on Sunday.
DiNapoli pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief with two wins and three strikeouts in three appearances. The freshman opened the week pitching 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout in the win at Georgian Court on Tuesday. The pitcher then pitched 0.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Mercy's 3-2 11-inning win over D'Youville on Friday. DiNapoli ended the week pitching 2.2 shutout innings with two strikeouts to earn the win in Mercy's 9-6 win over D'Youville on Sunday.
Votruba recorded one save with a 1.08 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched with two strikeouts in three appearances. The freshman opened the week pitching 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in the Mavericks' win at Georgian Court on Tuesday. The pitcher then pitched a scoreless 11th inning to earn the save in Mercy's 3-2 win at D'Youville on Friday. Votruba ended the week with a career-high 5.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen with just one run allowed to keep the Mavericks in the game after falling behind 6-0 at D'Youville on Sunday. Mercy would go on to win the game 9-6.
The award is the first for Sanders this season, the fifth for Goins, the first for DiNapoli and the second for Votruba. Mercy has now earned 27 awards on the year.
Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Friday when they play at Lincoln at 3 p.m.
