WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Apr. 15, 2024) – Mercy University baseball junior Jaden Caballero (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) and sophomore Riley Williams (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) have been named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Honor Roll for Week Nine.
Caballero hit .476 (10-for-21) with a team-high seven runs to go with two RBI, four doubles, a home run and a triple in five games this week. The junior opened the week going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, recording his 100th career run scored, in Mercy's win over Saint Rose on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and an RBI at Molloy on Friday. Caballero went 2-for-5 with a run in game one against Molloy on Saturday and ended the week going 3-for-4 with a run at Molloy on Sunday.
Williams pitched a team-high 8.2 innings in two appearances with a 2.08 ERA, one save and seven strikeouts. The sophomore opened the week with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief pitched with two strikeouts to earn the save in Mercy's win over Saint Rose on Tuesday. Williams ended the week with six innings pitched and just two runs allowed and five strikeouts to earn a no-decision against No. 16 Molloy on Sunday.
The award is the first for Caballero this season and the second for Williams. Mercy has now earned 20 awards on the year.
Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Friday when they play at Lincoln at 3 p.m.
